SREHUP’s Breaking Bread Community Shelter is an emergency shelter located in Upper Darby, PA in close proximity to the 69th Street Transportation Center for residents of Delaware County in need of services and housing help. We currently have 17 beds for adults of all ages and backgrounds. Breaking Bread Community is the only shelter that welcomes guests to come with their 3 Ps:  Pets, Possessions, and Partners of all genders. Breaking Bread Community Shelter (BBCS) is an emergency shelter responding to the growing need for temporary housing for individuals that are homeless in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. We offer comprehensive programs and services that promote self-sufficiency for individuals in a supportive environment of shared respect, dignity, caring, and trust.

Renovation Fundraising

We’ve completed phase one of the  Breaking Bread Community Shelter renovation, which allowed us to open our doors in December of 2022 for those experiencing homelessness.
However, we are at limited capacity and need to complete the next phase of our renovation to house even more people and care for their pets as well.

Your contribution will help us complete phase two of renovation, and allow us to build out an office for veterinarian services, and house and care for the people with their pets. Contribute today through our GoFundMe.

On Site offerings

Resident Services

Meals

Volunteers cook and serve nutritious and well-rounded meals 7 nights a week. We also provide grab-and-go food for breakfast. This is the best way for volunteers to get involved; we encourage families, co-workers, faith based congregants, neighbors, and friends to come together to cook, serve, and to sit & break bread with our guests

Medical Care

We are committed to providing access to any necessary medical care that a guest and their pet may need. We work with trusted partners in the community to provide these services

Mental Health Support

We believe that high-quality and accessible mental and behavioral health care is vital. Breaking Bread Community Shelter is a non-judgmental and welcoming space for those living with mental illness, both treated and untreated. We work with individual guests to get them the care that they need.

Pet Friendly

As the only pet friendly shelter in the region, we are able to provide space and care for the precious animals who come through our door. Thanks to partnerships with Morris Animal Refuge and Providence Animal Center, guests and their pets receive compassionate care.
